How the essence of Bergamot is extracted
The essential oil of bergamot that is used in perfumery is obtained from the peel of the citrus fruit through cold extraction procedures .
The process of extracting the essential oil takes place by cold pressing of the peels, as in the case of other citrus fruits. Once the rind has been separated from the fruit, the caps are pressed using special machinery - the bags containing the essential oil, which are also visible to the naked eye. Subsequently, the liquid obtained is passed through a centrifuge which separates the essential oil from the aqueous part (hydrolat).
